The Eventex 2026 Excellence Report
Chapter #7

Behind the excellence

This final chapter shifts the camera to those who make excellence possible — the agencies, teams, individuals, technology providers, and venues recognized in their own right. In 2026, excellence is a system, not a single moment: these are the people and infrastructure that turn ideas into reality — at scale, on time, repeatedly, with the kind of discipline that lets the work in front of the camera look effortless. They are judged on criteria specific to their roles.
Per-tier prevalence of events designed to leave a lasting legacy

This shift shows up
clearly in the data

12.3% of Gold events built work designed to leave a lasting civic mark.
Only 3.2% of non-winners did.
Gold events were nearly 4× more likely to demonstrate this approach.
The pattern holds across every tier, with Silver at 4.7% and Bronze at 3.1%. When juries see work that creates permanent value beyond the event night, they reward it.

Lessons from Eventex Awards 2026

The strongest production companies operate as integrated delivery engines — strategy, creative, technical, and execution under one roof.
Industry-leading individuals carry decades of disciplined experience that scales under pressure across many simultaneous projects.
The venues that win are those that institutionalize their advantage — sustainability, programming, accessibility — into a daily operating system rather than a marketing claim.

Production & technology

Behind every winning event is a production team that turned an ambitious idea into a controllable reality. The 2026 Grand Prix winners on the service side share a common signature: deep in-house capability and a delivery model engineered for repeatability at scale.
Aquatic space
A world-first platform that turned water into a stage
CRYSTAL spent more than two years adapting drone navigation logic to the aquatic environment, then unveiled the result on the world’s largest aquatic stage at Burj Khalifa Lake — the first fully programmable floating platform.
Aqua Drones: World First for Dubai New Year's Eve Show at Burj Khalifa Fountain by CRYSTAL
Grand Prix Event Technology Finalist, Gold in New Event Technology, and Gold in Use of Technology
Eight mobile units carry performers and equipment, navigating in real time with GPS-grade precision, synchronized with fountains, lasers, lighting, and pyrotechnics across eight consecutive nights of performances.
Across the eight live shows, the system achieved a 95% operational success rate with zero major technical incidents — proof of its robustness under live broadcast conditions.
The innovation matters for what it unlocks: until now, water-based events relied on static platforms or shoreline stages. Aqua Drones turns water itself into a controllable, scalable performance space — a lake or harbour becomes an active scenographic environment rather than a backdrop.
Sujoy Cherian
Creative Technologist, Serial Entrepreneur, Group CEO, Option1live, and an Eventex Awards jury president
As a constant technologist, I this as a highly original and well-executed innovation that successfully transforms water into a dynamic storytelling medium, setting a strong new benchmark for large-scale show technology.
Execution
An integrated delivery engine
fischerAppelt Middle East is the agency behind several of the year’s standout works — including the Maqbool Fida Husain Museum Opening profiled in the AI as Creative Partner chapter. What makes the model distinctive is integration: strategy, creative, technical planning, and execution running as a single delivery engine from day one.
fischerAppelt
Grand Prix Agency Finalist, Gold in Live Communication Agency, Silver in PCO
A 45-person permanent team scales to 200 in peak season. Across the eligibility period, it delivered 26 projects in Qatar, expanded into Saudi Arabia, and made a first US entry via the FIFA Fan Festival in Houston.
Combined live attendance exceeded 1.5 million people (including 3,000 VVIPs). Twenty-two of the 26 projects were for returning clients (Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar Foundation, Esports World Cup Foundation, Lusail International Circuit, CMU-Q, GCO), with a tender win ratio around 70% and zero show-stops.
That repeat-business signal — more than any single award — is what says the delivery quality is real.
James Morgan
Principal Consultant: Tourism and Hospitality, Jadarah Business Consulting, and an Eventex Awards jury president
This entry demonstrates a deep company culture that delivers memorable events using the latest in engagement technology. Results back up the success of the agency.

The people

Some of the most impressive achievements in the awards this year were not events at all — they were the careers and concentrated performances of individual professionals operating at extreme scale.
Twenty-two pavilions, one director

Michele Salgarello

CEO and Co-Founder, Beyond Limits
Grand Prix Event Professional Finalist
Platinum in Executive Director
Gold in Production Director
At Expo 2025 Osaka, Michele Salgarello personally directed 22 Official Country mandates across construction, exhibits, and operations — the highest number managed by any single contractor at the event.
Timelines ran from 24-month developments (Italy Pavilion) to sub-7-month fast-track builds (the Type-X pavilions, including India), all in parallel under a centralized PMO with cross-border RACI matrices.
100% of the 22 mandates opened on time on April 13, 2025, with zero critical compliance failures and over €110 million in cumulative scope delivered. For the Saudi Arabia Pavilion alone, the team delivered 3,000+ events in six months, including a 10,000-attendee Extended National Day at Mitsui Arena.
Under his leadership, Beyond Limits now operates seven offices on four continents and ranks among the top three companies globally in BIE Expo project management.
Tahira Endean
MSc, CITP, CMP, CED, Head of Program, The IMEX Group, and an Eventex Awards jury president

Fourteen mega-events in 18 months

Sharif Omar Hachicho

Founder, CEO, Artistic Director, QVision
Grand Prix Event Professional Finalist
Platinum in Creative Director
Sharif Hachicho led the creative direction and full-scale execution of 14 international mega-events during the eligibility period — among them FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, FIFA U17 World Cup Qatar 2025, FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025, the Trophée des Champions, AFC Champions League Elite, Match for Hope 2026, and the LNG2026 Opening Ceremony.
Nine of the 14 were delivered in a single three-month window — November 2025 through February 2026 — a benchmark in production scalability at federation-broadcast scale.
His Match For Hope editions generated 25 million live viewers and 1.2 billion digital impressions, blending elite football with global influencers, live concerts, and charity storytelling.
With 36+ years of leadership across major ceremonies and global tournaments since 1992, Sharif’s recognition speaks to a body of work that has shaped Qatar’s creative production landscape over decades.

The spaces

Venues are the silent partner in every great event. The 2026 winners in this category are the spaces that don’t just host the work — they shape what becomes possible inside them.
Symphony
A music palace built on artistic excellence
Euskalduna Bilbao opened on 19 February 1999 on the historic site of the Euskalduna shipyards, turning an industrial symbol into a cultural icon. The “Palace of Music” pairs large-scale infrastructure with internationally renowned acoustics and a 360° program — opera, symphony, jazz, contemporary music, and ballet all under one roof.
EUSKALDUNA BILBAO Music Venue
Platinum in Music Venue
Its edge is the depth of its programming partnerships: ABAO BILBAO OPERA (northern Spain’s main opera season), Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa’s symphonic, chamber, and family seasons, and concerts by Euskadiko Orkestra, the Basque National Orchestra.
The Musika-Música festival — first weekend of March since 2000 — programs more than 70 concerts in a single weekend for audiences over 22,000, with tickets from five euros.
Accessibility isn’t a campaign here — it is built directly into the venue’s identity.
Benoit Sauvage
CEO, Connect DMC, and an Eventex Awards jury president
Euskalduna is the kind of venue that makes you proud of what the events and culture industry can achieve. World-class opera and symphony alongside concerts for babies and tickets from 3 euros that balance of excellence and accessibility is genuinely rare.
Conservation
Sustainability at the core
CCCR has built its operating model around four connected pillars — carbon management, resource efficiency, circular-economy integration, and responsible supply-chain development — treating sustainability not as a marketing attribute but as an auditable governance framework.
Costa Rica Convention Center (CCCR)
Gold in Sustainable Venue, Silver in People’s Choice Venue, Bronze in Versatile Venue
It is moving along the ISO 50001 pathway, formalizing energy management into a structured system with baselines, performance indicators, and corrective-action cycles. Through CarbonClear Events, it neutralizes 100% of operational emissions within its facilities.
At FIEXPO 2025, held at CCCR, 6,728.18 kg of waste achieved a 59.42% recovery rate, and 2,196.67 kg of CO₂ emissions were avoided through structured recycling, composting, and reuse.
It stands as a regional benchmark for what sustainability looks like when it is institutionalized rather than declared.
